Biography

  • Hometown: Brighton, Colorado
  • Year graduated: 2024
  • Major: History
  • Favorite food: Garlic Butter Shrimp (emphasis on the butter)
  • Favorite place on campus: 4th floor of the MacKenzie building: the “history” floor. I pretty much lived up there for a majority of my major. I have several great memories interacting with my history professors and classmates on that floor.
  • Favorite Bible verse: Ecclesiastes 3:1 “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” This verse became a good reminder in college when it felt like I would never graduate. College is just a very short season in your life (even if it doesn’t feel like such). Enjoy it, because it’s four years you will never be able to relive.
  • Hobbies/interests: Researching, writing, journaling, reading, collecting vintage books, listening to music
  • Sports I like to play: The academic sport of debate is a personal favorite.
  • What attracted me to PCC: To be completely honest, PCC is the only college I knew I would go to. However, once I was here, I LOVED the history program, and am grateful for the variety of history classes I was able to take.
  • Advice for future students: Don’t be afraid to get to know your teachers. Remember, they’re people just like you and want to help you succeed in your classes. Don’t be afraid to ask to see tests, quizzes, papers; the more proactive you are in asking for help with your classes, the more likely you’ll succeed in whatever class you’re taking!
  • One person I would like to meet and why: S.E. Hinton. She’s the author of my favorite book, The Outsiders. I’ve always wanted to know more of her thought process behind writing that book, as well as choosing character names.
  • Favorite class in college: Colonial America with Dr. Ordway or American Political Heritage with Mr. Crocker. (American Political Heritage gave me the idea for my senior capstone project!)
  • Best PCC memory: While taking my capstone class, we were required to read a chapter of a book and present on it. When it came time for my presentation, I got up, presented it, and as I was unplugging my computer, the teacher congratulated me on a good presentation but said he thought I read and presented the wrong chapter. My one of two classmates (there were three of us in the class) went, “Oh good! Because I read the wrong chapter!” Turns out, all three of us read either the chapter before or after the assigned chapter.
  • How I spend my free time: Reading and journaling, spending time in the library working on my novel
  • Most unique places I’ve traveled: The Aokigahara Forest in Japan. It’s also known as the “Sea of Trees”; it gives off this eerily silent feeling when you’re standing in the forest. The Edinburgh Castle has a majestic yet towering look where it sits above the city in Scotland.
  • People would be surprised to know that I . . . am certified in scuba diving.
  • Favorite PCC tradition: The academic rest day right before midterms
  • Favorite quotation: “There is no chaos in Heaven; God does not have problems, only plans.” – Corrie ten Boom
  • Ideal/favorite vacation spot: Scotland 100%! I went to Scotland for my high school senior trip and fell in love with the culture and landscape. I’m also a big fan of cloudy/rainy weather, which Scotland has an abundance of.
  • Things I can’t live without: My family and close friends. On a superficial level, books and a good podcast.
  • Fun fact: I’ve been to 10+ countries spanning 5 different continents, all before I was 20 (which is funny considering I’ve never been to Disney World or Land). On a trip from England to Amsterdam, I took a train through the Chunnel under the English Channel.
